Avatar: The Last Airbender Animated Movie Adds Dave Bautista, Eric Nam to Voice Cast

We finally have some details on the first of three planned animated Avatar: The Last Airbender movies, with Dave Bautista and singer/songwriter Eric Nam joining the voice cast.

Nam will be voicing Aang, while Bautista will be playing a villain of some sort. Dionne Quan, Jessica Matten, and Román Zaragoza round out the voice cast of what's currently being referred to as Aang: The Last Airbender.

Paramount Pictures made the reveal at its CinemaCon 2024 presentation in Las Vegas today, where it also confirmed that it's still on track for its already-announced October 10, 2025, release date. It was previously referred to as "untitled Aang Avatar film," so we knew the focus would be on Aang, but Paramount has revealed little else about the plot.

Lauren Montgomery, who worked as a storyboard artist on Season 3 of Avatar: The Last Airbender and on all episodes of sequel series The Legend of Korra, is set to direct.

Fans have speculated that it could show Aang's exploits as the Avatar in between the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. As previously mentioned, it's the first in a trilogy of films planned by Paramount and Nickelodeon under their Avatar Studios production banner.

Avatar Studios was unveiled back in 2021, a dedicated studio set to expand the world of the beloved cartoon with new original movies and TV shows. It's led by original creators and executive producers Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.

Years after the news of the formation of Avatar Studios, Aang: The Last Airbender will be the first project to emerge from it. Netflix's live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series, which has been renewed for Seasons 2 and 3 after its debut earlier this year, was produced separately, and did not have DiMartino and Konietzko involved after they left in 2020.

The casting was only one of a number of animation-focused updates Paramount provided at its CinemaCon presentation. The studio also shared information on Transformers One, Smurfs, and The SpongeBob Movie: Search for Squarepants.
