Grand Theft Auto 5 remains the top-streamed game on Twitch, the Amazon-owned platform announced Thursday. Broadcasters streamed more than 25.8 million hours of GTA 5 in 2024 — and viewers clocked in “1.4+ billion hours watched across all audiences,” per a news release published by Twitch. GTA 5 was the top gaming category in 2023, too, second overall to the Just Chatting category. It’s remained among the top games watched each year, especially as GTA Online role-playing became more popular on the platform.

But it’s also likely the hype for Grand Theft Auto 6 that’s kept GTA 5 among the top spots; Rockstar Games gave eager fans a look at a GTA 6 teaser trailer in 2023. In what’s expected to be the biggest launch of the year — and maybe years — GTA 6 is expected to be released in fall 2025. There’s no release date just yet, however. Instead, people continue to play (and watch) GTA 5, thus the huge numbers.

Twitch also shared that League of Legends totaled 1.19 billion hours watched, Valorant had 804 million hours watched, Fortnite totaled 539 million hours watched, and Call of Duty racked up 451 million hours watched. In total, there were 15.6 billion hours of gaming streams watched. The company also noted that VTubers grew exponentially over the year, with 1.1 billion hours watched globally.
