With less than a week until CES 2024 kicks off, LG Display announced a new gaming monitor, the fastest display announced to date, boasting a refresh rate of 480Hz.

In a press release, LG unveiled that this new gaming monitor is 27 inches with a 1440p resolution. While these features can be found in other products from different brands, the biggest selling point is the high refresh rate, which can be achieved with a resolution of 1440p.

LG previously announced another 480Hz refresh rate gaming monitor a few weeks ago as part of its UltraGear series of displays. While larger, sitting at 32 inches and having up to 4K resolution, the previously-announced monitor has some notable downsides, such as only being able to achieve the higher refresh rate by downgrading the resolution to 1080p.

These monitors sit at the absolute highest end of the gaming monitor spectrum. Indeed, many PCs can't come close to matching the frame-rates these new monitors are capable of outputting, with 120fps being the top-end in most instances.

One way or another, though 480Hz refresh are bound to become an industry standard. 360Hz refresh rate monitors are already available. These higher refresh rate monitors will allow gamers to display higher frames per second (FPS) well beyond the standard of 60fps, making them especially well-suited for fast-paced genres like action games and racers.

Information on the new LG monitor remains limited, including whether it supports G-Sync and/or FreeSync We also don't know the number and type of ports available on the display. But there is one interesting tidbit: the company notes that this particular monitor apparently emits the "lowest level of blue light in the industry." So the new monitor may have benefits beyond outputting better frame-rates, such as reduced eye fatigue.

LG has not revealed a release date, pricing, and the product's official name. But with CES set to kick off on January 9th, we will hopefully get more details soon.
