In Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, fantastic creatures like the Great Eagles and the Oliphaunts captivated viewers at first glance. Still, many of Middle-earth's most important animals were horses. Some were magical, some were ordinary, and some were ponies more fit for hobbits, but each contributed to the Fellowship's quest. Specifically, Aragorn's horse Brego was integral both to Aragorn's character arc and to the plot of the trilogy as a whole. As a Ranger of the North and the future King of Gondor, Aragorn relied on horses practically and emotionally.
