The past week has seen countless social media users revel in the re-emergence of a controversial 20-year-old advertising campaign that cunningly stitched commercials for the Chilean beer Cerveza Cristal directly into showings of the original Star Wars movie trilogy. In the days that followed, internet creatives have stepped up to share their own unique takes on the ads, and we've taken the time to curate some of the best and funniest parodies for your viewing pleasure.
A number of the editing virtuosos opted to follow the lead of the original Chilean commercials to parody pivotal scenes taken from across the length and breadth of the Star Wars cinematic universe. Seeded among the new offerings were further examples of seemingly legitimate old-school ads, though in today’s age of AI trickery literally everything on the internet needs to be viewed with a critical eye.
I managed to stitch back together this Cerveza Cristal ad from Star Wars that was present during Luke's training on the Millennium Falcon. We need the #cervezacristalcut. Reach out to anyone you may know in #Chile who could possibly have the original airing recorded somewhere! pic.twitter.com/ME5C5aFM9i

I've actually had people tell me these aren't real and I made them for internet points. They've clearly ignored the good practice of fact checking! I would NEVER make something like that up for internet points.

Others decided to parody scenes from Dennis Villeneuve's cinematic adaptations of Frank Herbert's sci-fi epic Dune. One particularly well-edited video showed Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) remove his hand from the 'pain box' seen in Villeneuve's 2021 movie to reveal a can of Cerveza Cristal, while a seperate post on X substited the Water of Life for, you guessed it, a bottle of beer.
Caught the first DUNE on Chilean TV the other night, can't believe they're still at it https://t.co/i5nl05GCcs pic.twitter.com/TomhKMAhfj

Amused spectators were also quick to point out that some creators had mistakenly used images of a random Cuban beer brand in their edits that happened to share the same name as the Chilean Cerveza Cristal that appeared in the unofficial 2003 Star Wars movie commercials.
Hey there. As a Chilean citizen it is mandatory for me to make this post.

The Chilean Cerveza Cristal (original for the meme) can be observed on the first image (green and yellow). The green and red is Cuban and the blue one is Peruvian.
Congrats on the meme and all the best. pic.twitter.com/b4LNrZN9Zx

In short, Cervezas are cropping up everywhere, from Optimus Prime’s chest cavity to the hand of Maximus Decimus Meridius. It's also been mooted as a replacement for lembas bread, and has even been rendered into the style of the classic 1986 Legend of Zelda title.
I had to double-check that this was real but I can now validate it as 100% authentic #cervezacristal pic.twitter.com/4yC3KxY86t
