The Entertainment Software Ratings Board (or ESRB) is an organization dedicated to giving age-based ratings to commercially released video games in the United States and Canada. It was founded in 1994 following congressional hearings on violence in gaming. The system is largely modeled after the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) for films.
