James Wan, the prolific filmmaker known for creating the Saw, Insidious, and Conjuring franchises, recently bought the rights to adapt 2024 survival road trip game Pacific Drive into a TV series, Variety reports.
While the show has yet to find a home, Wan will executive produce the series alongside the president of his Atomic Monster production company Michael Clear (Mortal Kombat, M3GAN) and head of television Rob Hackett (Swamp Thing, Archive 81). Jeff Ludwig, a producer attached to upcoming adaptations of Alan Wake and Sifu, will also executive produce.
Pacific Drive launched on Feb. 22 after years of anticipation, combining survival mainstays like looting and crafting with a retro-futuristic car players drove through post-apocalyptic conditions using realistic mechanics. Polygon senior editor Oli Welsh called it a game of “many mysteries” and “deep systems” in a glowing review at the time. Pacific Drive would go on to be longlisted by BAFTA for its Debut Game, Game Design, Narrative, and New IP categories as well as nominated for Best Music at The Indie Game Awards and Best Debut Indie Game at The Game Awards 2024.
Variety notes Atomic Monster is also currently developing a horror reboot of classic sitcom The Munsters known as 1313, a Robocop series for Amazon, and a live-action Gargoyles for Disney+.
