Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord got an official release date during today's State of Play presentation, releasing Oct. 26 on the PSVR2 and Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest 3 headsets, with crossplay.
Pre-orders are now open. The VR game was first announced last April for Meta Quest 2 before it was revealed that June that it would be coming to the PlayStation VR2.
While it's intended to be played co-op with four players, it's also possible to play solo "with the help of a ghostly companion," per Sony Pictures Virtual Reality (SPVR) and VR developer nDreams.
"Gear up with the latest Ghostbustin’ gadgets from remote turrets to ghost decoys," reads its description. "Take on a variety of missions, like collecting dark PKE or closing interdimensional portals. Players must work together to solve puzzles, trap ghosts, and stop the March of the Malevolent. There’s nothing like bustin’ in four-player coop, but even solo, players can take on the Ghost Lord with the help of a ghostly companion."
In a new blog post published with the State of Play, Game Director Nathan Baseley talked further about the kinds of technology Rise of the Ghost Lord will be taking advantage of, including eye tracking, immersive lighting, haptic feedback, and adaptive triggers to give those lil' Mini-Puffs a squeeze.
"There’s no Ghostbusters movie about one person taking on the paranormal by themselves – and there’s nothing like wielding the iconic equipment together as you get up close and personal with angry ghosts," Baseley writes. "Add into the mix a new story, new location, new equipment, and new cast – and we have the recipe for the ultimate Ghostbusters experience in VR."
