Percy Jackson and the Olympians' Premiere Just Surprise-Dropped a Few Hours Early

Surprise! The two-episode premiere of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is now available on Disney+, about six hours ahead of schedule. Additionally, the first episode is also available on Hulu.

The first two episodes were originally set to premiere at midnight PT on December 20, so today's move is a nice surprise for fans who were planning on staying up a little late to catch the premiere.

There's no indication that Disney will continue to drop Percy Jackson and the Olympians at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET instead of midnight PT, so we're guessing this is a one-time thing. But, interestingly, if the studio did adopt that earlier timeframe, it would be more in line with what it's tried out with recent tentpole series like Ahsoka and Loki, which both aired new episodes at 6 p.m. PT, bucking Disney+'s previous midnight standard.

It's also interesting to see that Hulu wasn't left out in this surprise-drop. Last week, Disney announced that the first episode of this new take on Rick Riordan's beloved novels would drop on Hulu simultaneously with Disney+. The company's continued to tie Disney+ and Hulu closer together as it prepares to launch its all-in-one experience of the two apps.

In his 7/10 review of the first four episodes for IGN, Tyler Robertson wrote, "Further evidence that the long-form nature of a TV series allows for better book adaptations, Percy Jackson and the Olympians brings author Rick Riordan’s world of gods and monsters to life, while adding a hint of modernity."
