Foamstars launches on February 6 as a month-long PlayStation Plus exclusive across PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, developer Square Enix has announced.
The 4v4 Splatoon-style “foam party” shooter launches on PlayStation Plus on February 6, and will remain on the subscription service until March 4, 2024. Then, from March 5, Foamstars will be sold from the PlayStation Store, with a PlayStation Plus subscription required.
Square Enix said Foamstars’ inclusion in PlayStation Plus was designed to “bring the foam party to as many players as possible.”
Three PvP multiplayer gameplay modes will be available at launch, including Smash the Star, Happy Bath Survival, and the newly revealed Rubber Duck Party. Each mode has three maps designed to “intensify the gameplay experience and deliver original, fun, and strategic experiences with every match", Square Enix said. Maps are randomized for matchmaking “to keep everyone on their toes.”
Meanwhile, Foamstar and Squad Missions introduce solo and team based PvE experiences, where players are tasked with protecting Bath Vegas from a series of randomized encounters. Missions are designed to help players get to grips with the game before jumping into competitive PvP matches.
Square Enix said it plans free updates over the game’s first year of life, with an optional premium season pass also available in what is a clear live service play.
