The new Bleach anime is taking appreciable steps to fix the numerous flaws and narrative pitfalls of the original animated series with mixed results. The Thousand-Year Blood War arc still has some issues compared to other action series like My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen, but in the most important scenes, Bleach pulls ahead with meaningful twists on familiar shonen tropes. That includes power-ups, which used to be one of the show's worst flaws.
