Since the release of A New Hope in 1977, the Star Wars universe has expanded to include myriad new stories in books and comics, on television and in video games. The latter, similarly to the movies, has a particularly varied history when it comes to how those products were received by their intended audience. The first licensed direct movie tie-in was released all the way back in 1982 and it was actually an adaptation of The Empire Strikes Back for the Atari 2600, a scrolling shooter video game that sold well despite a decidedly mixed bag of reviews.
