The Last Voyage of the Demeter had a promising premise, but at the end of the day, the execution left a lot to be desired. Instead of delivering a new adaptation of the classic Dracula story -- which would have been a step in the right direction toward finally relaunching the Universal Monsters universe -- Universal opted to focus on the smaller story of Dracula's trip aboard the doomed Demeter. While the decision to take a chance with lesser-known material is appreciated, the concept was stretched too thin and only served to sour audiences on a return for these classic monsters.
