Ever since the infamous Holiday Special introduced a non-canon version of Boba Fett in 1978, animation has been a part of Star Wars. While some series -- like Droids and Ewoks -- were never considered part of the franchise's continuity, more recent animated shows have become official Star Wars lore, filling in parts of the legend that happened between films. The characters from these series are so popular that some have made appearances in live-action films and series, while others have had whole shows based around them.
