Director Ridley Scott helped establish a brand-new genre of movies in 1982 with his classic feature Blade Runner, starring Harrison Ford. Many sci-fi fans recognize Blade Runner as being one of the first true works of cyberpunk, and it helped establish many genre staples such as dirty urban environments and garish neon signs everywhere. Author William Gibson's 1984 novel Neuromancer helped finish what Blade Runner started and made cyberpunk a legitimate, enduring subgenre fans still love today.
