Shonen anime for the younger male demographic make up some of anime's most popular titles, and Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball is still one of the genre's finest. Shonen series find success through their easily replicable stories, characters, and structure, which is certainly the case for Dragon Ball. Dragon Ball has endured for nearly 40 years, and even though it brings forward original ideas, it's still very much a shonen series that indulges in the genre's clichés.
