Todd Phillips' Joker standalone film set out to tell a new origin story for one of the greatest villains in entertainment. It succeeded thanks to the twisted and Academy Award-winning performance from Joaquin Phoenix. The film would also become a massive hit for Warner Bros. and DC, earning $1 billion worldwide and receiving plenty of critical acclaim unheard of for a comic book film, such as receiving the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
