The James Bond franchise has traditionally been something of an albatross around Mission: Impossible's neck. Comparisons between the two franchises are all too easy: both centered around a single intelligence agent and his support team, with each new movie presenting a different global threat to overcome. The Mission: Impossible TV series on which the Tom Cruise movies are based wouldn't have existed without 007, putting them at an immediate disadvantage whenever comparisons come up.
