The Amazing Spider-Man debuted over sixty years ago and has seen many ups and downs during its legendary run. With a backstory that includes killer clones, robot parents, and a marriage annulled through a deal with the Devil, Marvel's flagship superhero is no stranger to controversy. However, the current run by writer Zeb Wells has been panned by fans for how it's handled many of the franchise's characters, including Peter Parker himself. While it’s not too late for a course correction, the current creative team seems either unaware or dismissive of the concerns that the Wall-Crawler's fanbase has raised. This is to the book's detriment. The run has several positive aspects, but they're overshadowed by a reliance on plot-driven contrivances, mystery box revelations that make little sense, and gimmicky deaths that are only intended for shock value.
