Sony is currently in the process of knocking the prices down on its latest PlayStation 5 model across Europe (commonly dubbed as the slim by fans and media alike). This comes in the form of a limited-time discount on the console, which can presently be purchased for £419.99 in the UK -- a £60 reduction versus its £479.99 RRP. In the rest of Europe, the console has received around a €75 discount at participating retailers.
This is the first significant discount the PS5 'slim model' has received since it was released in November last year. The most notable deal the console had before was during the Black Friday sales, where Sony bundled Marvel's Spider-Man 2 or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 with the PS5 at no extra cost.
This was one of the most popular deals of the holiday season, but despite its popularity and the console outselling Xbox consoles 2-to-1, Sony is expected to fall short of its ambitious 25 million PS5s sold during the current financial year. This forecast has been scaled down to 21 million units, with the tech giant also stating that the console is entering “the latter stage of its life cycle.”
For those in the UK, there are more PS5-related discounts to check out right now as well (courtesy of @IGNUKDeals on Twitter/X). Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is currently down to £55.99 for those looking to preorder the game before its release day on February 29.
Moreover, those looking to save in the PlayStation Planet of the Discounts sale will be pleased to know that Currys also has an extra 15% off PlayStation Gift Cards (i.e. £90 top-up code for just £76.50) that can be applied directly to your PlayStation Wallet funds.
The new discount for the PS5 'slim' is yet to venture across the pond for those in the United States, but does after Sony stated in a recent financial call that a significant and permanent PlayStation 5 price cut would be “very difficult”. Elsewhere, Sony has also indicated that it will not release any major existing PlayStation franchise games before April 2025, ruling out big sequels in the God of War and Spider-Man franchises any time soon.
