When it was announced during Star Wars Celebration that James Mangold would be directing a Star Wars film about the dawn of the Jedi, fans had more questions than the studio was ready to provide answers to. After all, this would mark the first exploration of that era in anything other than Star Wars: Visions, which isn't even considered to be part of the official canon. Not even the High Republic novels and comics stretch that far back, and they're the earliest pieces of canon up to this point. Clearly, Mangold's veering into uncharted territory with this film - which gives him almost full creative freedom when considering what direction he wants to take with it.
