The strangest thing about anime romance is that it's highly addictive. Classics like Ouran High School Host Club and Wolf Girl and Black Prince are examples with several unforgivably glorified clichés that are looked down upon by modern audiences. Even though these high school romantic stories are choke full of shojo tropes and toxic male leads, the viewers have always loved to hate them. Anime series featuring a push-and-pull relationship with little to no character development has sort of become a guilty pleasure watchlist for hopeless romantics to enjoy.
