Batman has issues. It's discussed in several comics and a topic in some movies, such as Batman Forever and Batman Begins, where Bruce talks about the trauma associated with the deaths of his parents. But that's it. The films don't explore why Bruce dissociates into the identity of Batman. When he loses the people closest to him, he becomes more jaded. This is reflected in The Dark Knight Rises as Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) disappears for an extended period, which should have resulted in further issues within his psyche, yet it's brushed over in favor of other plot points. Recently, the tides have turned for the character regarding his mental issues. Robert Pattinson's Batman is clearly dealing with a lot mentally, as evidenced by his rocky relationship with Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis).
