ASUS has apologised and is offering replacement parts to those affected by a printing error that saw misspelt Neon Genesis Evangelion-themed motherboards sent out to customers.

Tech giant ASUS is currently offering a series of decorative computer components, cases, keyboards, and other hardware featuring aesthetics taken from the 1990s anime Neon Genesis Evangelion. One such product is the ROG Maximus Z790 Hero EVA-02 Edition motherboard, which comes emblazoned with the visage of fan-favorite character Asuka Langley Soryu, while featuring phrases and imagery from the cult anime matched with the red/black/yellow aesthetic of the Unit-02 Evangelion.

Sadly, some customers who paid out for the flashy motherboards were left disappointed after discovering a misprint near the aluminum I/O heatsink cover, where an errant ‘n’ had somehow found its way into the word Evangelion, transforming it into the even less sensical letter mass of ‘Evangenlion’.

ASUS has since apologised for the mistake in the wake of the backlash in a post on its support website, where it assured customers that had already installed the part that the defect was purely aesthetic in nature, and would have no effect on the product’s performance or functionality.

"We have recently received incident reports about the ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO EVA-02 EDITION motherboard regarding the misspelling of the word “Evangelion” on the decorative part located on the left side of the product," read the ASUS post. "We sincerely apologize for any confusion or inconvenience this may have caused."

In an attempt to set things right, the company has moved to extend the warranty of the motherboards by an additional year, while implementing a replacement service that will allow affected customers to claim a correctly printed replacement part by getting in touch with customer services.
