Look Back, a one-shot Manga from Chainsaw Man creator Tatsuki Fujimoto, is getting a theatrical anime adaptation, announced today with a teaser trailer and website.

The short manga, following the lives of a young artist and a home-bound classmate, was first released online in 2021, shortly after Chainsaw Man’s first part concluded.

News of this adaptation was predicted earlier this month when the web domain Lookback-anime.com was registered, but today marks the official announcement and release of a trailer, which shows protagonist Ayumu Fujino drawing at their desk before turning around and, aptly, looking back at us.

The anime is produced by Studio Durian and directed by Kiyotaka Oshiyama, a long-time key animator whose work contributed to Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance, Arrietty, and The Wind Rises. The film will be released in Japanese theaters nationwide on June 28, 2024.

In our review of Chainsaw Man Season 1 we said: "Fujimoto captures the bleak outlook many in his generation have on the world (with good reason), and Chainsaw Man constantly shows why it is necessary to have any kind of release from the cruelty of the world, even if it's just joking around like an idiot with your roommates."

Mat Jones is IGN's UK Social Coordinator, and will turn back into a pumpkin at midnight.
