Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is definitely getting a sequel according to star Simu Liu. Liu's promising update came via Threads where a fan complained that Shang-Chi, which has been dormant since the original's release in 2021, was being ignored at Marvel.

"I feel like Marvel has abandoned the Shang-Chi fanbase," the user wrote. "There has been no effort by the studio to get the sequel filming or even include the character in other Marvel films. Frustrating as hell."

Liu's response gave hope, however. "I promise it’s happening," he said.

Shang-Chi 2 had seemingly been on ice at Marvel for a few years, with even Liu himself saying in July 2023 that the film keeps getting pushed back despite it originally being planned to release after the next Avengers. His confidence here is therefore exciting to fans, as his pessimism around the sequel appears all but gone.

Marvel's schedule has been thrown into somewhat of a tailspin after Jonathan Majors was found guilty of one count of assault in the third degree and one count of harassment in the second degree. Majors played big baddie Kang in the MCU, essentially this generation's Thanos, and Marvel's sacking of the actor has seemingly altered its plans significantly.

Little is known about Shang-Chi 2, beyond that Destin Daniel Cretton has agreed to return to write and direct. In our 8/10 review of the first film, IGN said: "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is a confident introduction to Marvel’s first Asian superhero, delivering the MCU’s best fight choreography and one of its most emotionally complex villains."
