Fans of The Walking Dead eager to await the fates of Rick Grimes and Michonne will be happy to know that the upcoming spinoff show focusing on these two love birds will have a "satisfying ending."
As part of IGN Fan Fest, we sat down with Executive Producer, Co-Creator, Showrunner Scott Gimbal, and a few cast members from the show. During the interview, Gimbal responded to a question regarding how the show would end and whether that ending would provide a conclusion to the story it was trying to tell.
"Well, I mean more possibilities, more questions. I think it's a very satisfying completion of a story," Gimbal explained. "But I think, you know, when shows end, I do hope that audiences' imaginations are always sort of engaged and like, 'Okay, well, what could happen next?' And, sure, you can do that with this show, but I think there's also an incredibly satisfying ending to a very long story."
Gimbal's response explaining that the show hopes to deliver both a "satisfying ending" while also hoping audiences will wonder "what next?" after the end comes as no surprise. While The Walking Dead itself concluded its run after 11 seasons in 2022, the series has spawned several spinoffs, not just The Ones Who Live. Other spinoffs currently airing include The Walking Dead: Dead City and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, both of which premiered last year and have been renewed for a second season.
In our review of the first four episodes of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, IGN wrote: "The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live gives us an appropriately reverent Rick and Michonne love story, even making the villains interesting in the process."
