A Batgirl film extra is reportedly suing Warner Bros. for an on-set motorcycle accident, which resulted in extensive injuries and a three-day stint in the intensive care unit.
Cristina Stanovici has detailed some of the gruesome injuries and the lengthy recovery process she endured after being hit by a speeding motorbike during late-night scenes on the Glasgow set of the Batgirl movie last year. The alleged incident left her with a broken thigh, shin, hip, pelvis and thumb, and a head gash.
"They had a motorcycle with cameras on top of it that was filming," Stanovici recalled, speaking to UK tabloid The Sun. "It hit me from the right side, and I went flying in the air. I started screaming to get the attention of the paramedics as I remembered seeing an ambulance on site in the previous days."
The extra, who appeared as a bystander in the scenes, claims she lay in the same position for "almost an hour" while medics checked over her injuries and stabilised her. She says she ended up in hospital and underwent multiple surgeries but felt it would have been "easier" if she had died rather than going through the ordeal.
Filming on Batgirl took place between November 2021 and March 2022. However, Stanovici didn't get to stay on set as the collision put her in hospital for nine days, three of which she spent in intensive care. She says the pain and the memory of the accident are still with her more than 17 months later.
"The recovery was and is horrendous," she added. "I am still in pain every single day, every single step. People might think it's just a broken leg. No. It's a tragedy, your body is wrecked, and your mind follows. Many people, including me, who go through this think it would have been easier if they had died."
According to the outlet, Stanovici has instructed a legal firm to sue Warner Bros. for compensation, but the amount sought by the extra is unknown. The lawsuit filing comes after the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), a UK workplace wellbeing regulator, reportedly received a report in relation to the alleged incident.
Warner Bros. unexpectedly cancelled the Batgirl movie in August 2022 despite being in its final stages. It's believed that the film was deemed irreparable following a damaging test screening, so Warner Bros. Discovery decided to use it as a tax write-down instead of releasing it either theatrically or on streaming.
