Reacher's Alan Ritchson has responded to recent rumors that he’ll play Batman — and yes, he would love to.

During an interview with Fortress of Solitude, the Reacher star addressed the rumor that he could be tapped to play the DCU’s new Batman.

“With all the rumors flying that I’m supposed to be playing Batman, how can I knock Batman?” he said. “I would love to play Batman.”

Filmmaker and renowned comic book fan Kevin Smith recently referred to Ritchson’s version of Reacher as “Batman without a cape”, and it certainly got fans talking.

Many assumed that since Smith is friends with former Batman Ben Affleck, and has close ties to the DC universe, that he may have inadvertently hinted at who may be the DCU’s new Batman.

Whatever the case, it looks as though Ritchson himself is a big fan of the comparison. “You know, that is a great analogy, actually,” he said. “But I mean, Batman has got like a cave, and Reacher doesn’t even have a house. He’s got a toothbrush. So, I think Batman has got cool stuff. Dude is loaded and has caves, penthouses, and spotlights that call him. Batman’s cooler.”

Still, he isn’t counting Reacher out and says that he’s still one tough opponent. “I mean, Reacher would be harder to go down in a fight,” he said. “Just him and his toothbrush, and [Batman] be like, ‘Damn, he’s holding on. It’s been 30 minutes.’ So, it would be fun.”

Although James Gunn recently unveiled that David Corenswet would be the new Superman, there’s still no indication who will take over as the DCU’s Batman. The Batman star Robert Pattinson was an obvious choice, but Gunn recently revealed that The Batman director Matt Reeves put a stop to that. “It's not an 'allowed' thing,” he explained. “It's Matt's choice, and we respect that.”

IGN’s Reacher Season 2 review gave it 8/10 and said: “An unpretentious and well-paced mix of investigation and extrajudicial retaliation, Reacher season 2 is purpose-built Friday night TV. That is, perfect for pounding popcorn while Reacher pounds away onscreen – mostly into the faces and fleshy bits of scattered salvoes of assorted scumbags.”
