Netflix is reporting yet another quarter of growth in both revenue and subscribers, bringing in just over 8 million new subscribers in Q2 for a total of 277.65 million.

This is in part thanks to growth of its ad tier, with membership of that tier up 34% from the prior quarter. The company recently phased out its ad-free Basic plan, and currently is building an in-house ad tech platform that it expects to test in Canada this year and launch more broadly in 2025.

Other Q2 successes for Netflix cited in its report include Bridgerton Season 3, which saw 98.5 million views in Q2 and helped Netflix reach 172 million views across all Bridgerton universe content. Baby Reindeer and Under Paris were also cited as successes.

However, Netflix is predicting a drop in paid net adds in the coming quarter, and soon, we won't be able to track these numbers at all. The company has said it will stop reporting subscription numbers beginning in 2025, citing user-engagement metrics and finanancial metrics as better trackers of the company's success.

Per its earnings, Netflix revenue for the quarter reached $9.56 billion, up 17% year-over-year. Even with the subscription decline, Netflix expects 14% year-over-year growth in the coming Q3, and full-year growth for the company between 14% and 15%.

Earlier this year, Netflix announced it would be the exclusive home of this year's Christmas day NFL games.
