For almost as long as they have co-existed, Star Wars and Star Trek have been at odds. The rivalry amongst the fans confuses some since both series are epic, generational sagas about spaceships full of heroes protecting the innocent from alien baddies. Yet, one reason fans typically prefer one over the other goes deeper than the distinction between "science fiction" and "science fantasy."
