In a post on X/Twitter, the streaming giant revealed that Universal/Illumination's Super Mario Bros. Movie will hit the service on Dec. 3. The film, released earlier this year, was originally released on the streaming service Peacock this past August.
While it might be surprising to some, given Universal Pictures distributed the film, this announcement is part of a deal Netflix and Universal inked in 2021, where films from Illumination and DreamWorks Animation will arrive on Netflix after a four-month exclusivity window on Peacock.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie was released in April and quickly became a smash hit, surpassing $1 billion at the global box office. It's currently the second-highest-grossing film of 2023 so far (per Box Office Mojo), after Barbie.

It's no doubt an interesting time for video game adaptations, especially when it comes to Nintendo. Earlier this week, it was revealed that Nintendo was taking another one of its beloved IPs to the big screen, announcing a collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment to make a live-action movie based on The Legend of Zelda.
