Netflix has announced a new documentary series chronicling the rise and fall of the WWE's controversial founder, Vince McMahon.

According to Netflix, the six-episode series, aptly titled Mr. McMahon, is coming to the streaming service on September 25. It intends to "pull back the curtain to reveal the true Vince McMahon obscured beneath the persona he presented to the world," offering a portrait of the controversial businessman and WWE co-founder.

The documentary is culled from over 200 hours of interview footage with McMahon himself (before he resigned from WWE), his family members, business associates, and some of the most iconic names in wrestling history, as well as the journalists who uncovered the explosive allegations McMahon found himself at the center of.

A rich and nuanced portrait of the man and the complex legacy he left behind.

Chris Smith, who executive produced the hit Tiger King docuseries for Netflix in 2020, is in the director's chair for Mr. McMahon while also executive producing with Bill Simmons. Smith admitted that creating the documentary was no small feat, but has led to an insightful look into McMahon, his life, and his career.

"Over the four years of production, the story evolved in truly shocking ways, culminating in some extremely harrowing allegations," Smith told Netflix of the experience. "The final product is a revealing documentary that we believe offers a rich and nuanced portrait of the man and the complex legacy he left behind."

McMahon and his wife Linda founded the company that became known as WWE back in 1980 and they witnessed it grow into a sports entertainment powerhouse. However, in recent years, McMahon has been riddled with controversy amid allegations of sexual misconduct and trafficking, leading to his resignation in January.

Mr. McMahon arrives on Netflix on September 25, with interviews from Hulk Hogan, Dwayne Johnson, Steve Austin, John Cena, Bret Hart, and more.
