The original Masters of the Universe toyline was where the franchise got its start, but it was the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon that truly sent the property into stratospheric popularity. The classic Hanna-Barbera animated series cemented many of the elements that fans now remember fondly. Ironically, the toyline that started it all initially told a much different story.
