Zack Snyder has said he has the footage he needs to "fix" Sucker Punch, but he might need the support of a fan campaign to get his extended cut off the ground.

The folks at Empire asked Snyder what, if anything, he would want to change about one of his movies, which resulted in him bringing Sucker Punch into the conversation. He once again expressed his interest in returning to the movie to rework it but said he needs permission to move forward with his long-gestating plans.

"I have the footage already shot. They just have to let me put it together.

"The only movie I would change is Sucker Punch because it never really got finished correctly," Snyder admitted. "Even the director's cut is not really the correct cut. It's really just an extended version. If I had the chance, I would fix that movie.

"I have the footage already shot. They just have to let me put it together," he added. "We ask every now and then. We have to ask again. I think there has to be a window when no one's got the movie."

The director also gave his approval for fans "to start a campaign" if they want to see it happen. Famously, of course, the fan movement that demanded the release of Snyder's Justice League led to Warner Bros. finally greenlighting his version of the DC team-up movie after years of online rallying.

Snyder has long vocalised his desire to work on a new and improved cut of Sucker Punch, reiterating his intentions to release a director's cut of the 2011 action-fantasy film just last year. He said the revised version would include the movie's original ending with Babydoll, which was deemed "too weird" for the theatrical release.

When it hit theaters, Sucker Punch received generally negative reviews and underperformed at the box office, earning $89.7 million worldwide on a budget of $83 million. Snyder, however, doesn't harbor any ill feelings over these reactions, as he recently admitted that his movies are (and always have been) "very polarising."

Snyder has had several projects rejected by Warner Bros. over the years, with some remaining on the shelf and others moving forward with alternative studios. He also has some new releases on the horizon, with Rebel Moon: Part 2 – The Scargiver releasing on Netflix on April 12 before the R-rated director's cuts come out.
