If you've ever wanted to fully immerse yourself in a game to the point where you can smell things that appear onscreen, I have just the product for you.
GameScent is a new product that uses AI to release a scent that correlates to the gameplay on your display. In a press release, the company says that its patent-pending adaptor allows the device to use real-time audio cues to dispense a scent - like the smell of rain during a storm, or gunfire in a first-person shooter - that corresponds with the game you're playing.
As you can see in the gallery above, GameScent is a small box compatible with PCs, consoles, and VR headsets, as the device can plug into either an HDMI or a 3.5mm audio jack.
The device uses swappable cartridges to "keep the sensory adventure going," according to the company. But there is a "Clean Air" neutralizer that removes scents after a gaming session, so you don't have to worry about the smell of a smoky explosion in your house hours after you finish playing.
"Studies have shown that the sense of smell imprints in long-term memory more strongly than anything else," GameScent President Casey Bunce wrote in a press release. "With GameScent, we're hoping to elevate gamers' experiences to be more exciting and memorable than they ever have been before."
Out of the box, GameScent includes six scents:
- Gun Fire
- Explosion
- Racing
- "Clean Air"
- Storm
- Forest
Some additional scents will also be available for purchase in the future. A few upcoming scents include Sports Arena, Blood, and Fresh Cut Grass.
GameScent is now available on Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, and GameStop, with the product currently on sale for $149.99 (usually $179.99) on Amazon. Of course, if you don't want to buy it (yet) but happen to be attending PAX East next month, GameScent will demo the product at its booth.
