2024 is looming, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin II - Re-Evolution is already shaping up to be one of the biggest new releases of the year. Whereas the original series focused on the sole surviving member of the original TMNT clan, this sequel spotlights a brand new generation of four Turtles.

IGN can exclusively debut a new preview of TMNT: The Last Ronin II #1. Check it out in the slideshow gallery below:

TMNT: The Last Ronin II - Re-Evolution is written by Kevin Eastman and Tom Waltz, with art by Isaac Escorza, Esau Escorza and Ben Bishop, colors by Edgar Delgado and letters by Shawn Lee. Here's IDW's official description for the first issue:

More than a decade after the Last Ronin defeated the Foot Clan, New York City finds itself in a state of steady decline. Now, the disparate gangs vie for economic and political control and the chaos is taking its toll. It's clear to Casey Marie that if something isn't done soon, the city she knows and loves will be lost forever. So, whether they're ready or not, she and her young pupils must raise a new coalition and lead the charge to keep the peace. Witness the rise of the next generation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as they fight to restore peace to the streets they live below! Legendary TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman proudly presents the next epic chapter of The Last Ronin, reassembling the acclaimed creative team from the original monster bestseller for a second oversized, prestige format miniseries event!

The Last Ronin II #1 was originally scheduled for release in December 2023. However, IDW is now pushing the release date back slightly to February 28, 2024.

IGN previously spoke with Bishop about the challenges of designing a new generation of Turtles.

"We were thinking, ‘How do we make them distinctive?’ And turtles are so wildly different anyway, that we landed on making sure that those silhouettes are different," Bishop told IGN. "They're different sizes, recognizable immediately, their colors are different, they have a certain roundness or a certain spikiness. Everything was on the table, which is, again, part of why it was so fun to sit down and draw 12 different designs, and then what those 12 turtles might've looked like as babies.”

Elsewhere in the TMNT-verse, IDW is gearing up for the 150th issue of the ongoing TMNT series, which also serves as the climax of writer Sophie Campbell's run.
