One thing I always have my eye when I'm looking for the best Labor Day sales is book deals. As someone who sticks to physical books, finding a great hardcover or special edition on sale is possibly one of the greatest feelings. So whether you’re looking to start a sprawling fantasy series or pick up a light-hearted beach read, I’d recommend checking out these Labor Day book sales happening right now.
Barnes and Noble Sale
One of the best times of the year to buy books is during Barnes and Noble’s Annual Book Haul Sale, which is live through Labor Day weekend. There’s a lot going on in this event, but to summarize, the chain bookstore has 50% off most books (we’re talking fiction, non-fiction, YA, and yes, even hardcovers), alongside a Buy 1 Get 1 Free deal for Collectible Editions. These Collectible Editions include some of my favorite sci-fi series, Dune and Foundation, as well as some iconic horror authors like H.P. Lovecraft.
Amazon Labor Day Sale
While you can always find random discounts on Amazon Prime, Amazon’s Labor Day sale has had better deals than usual this year. There isn’t always any rhyme or reason to what books go on sale, but the online retailer is probably your best bet for finding deals on book sets and special editions. If you prefer reading in a digital format, or are ready to make the e-reader transition, Amazon is also the best place to go for Labor Day deals on Kindles.

While I’m all for finding the best deal possible, the long weekend can also be a great time to support your local bookstore. Besides investing in a smaller business in your community, I also find that going to bookstores in person helps me discover new books as opposed to the same ones everyone’s been talking about.
