After beginning the 1980s as a relatively niche interest, anime gained traction across the world, due in part to the success of beloved series like Eiichiro Oda's iconic franchise, One Piece. The sea-faring shonen premiered in the latter half of the 90s, and over 25 years later, its anime has finally debuted its most important transformation to date: Monkey D. Luffy's Gear 5 form.
