The Pokémon franchise recently surpassed 1000 species in the overall Pokédex with the Gen IX games Scarlet & Violet, and this number will only continue to grow with future releases. With over 1000 registered species and so many more variations, it can be somewhat surprising that there are only 18 types, albeit with around 150 total type combinations in all.
