We already knew that RTX Remix, Nvidia's sweet modding tool that allows you to remaster classic games with neat features like ray tracing and a visual facelift, was coming out in beta later this month. And if you were wondering how far the limitations of the beta will be when it releases, Nvidia confirmed to IGN that despite it being a beta, you can completely remaster a classic game from start to finish.
During an interview with IGN to discuss some of the company's biggest announcements, Nvidia's GeForce Evangelist Jacob Freeman told IGN that modders can fully remaster a classic game in the beta version of RTX Remix.
"Yes. Obviously, this is designed for modders, right? So if you had modding knowledge and you were able to mod games, you could definitely use RTX Remix to remaster classic games," Freeman told IGN. "Just like we did with Half-Life with Orbifold Studios, who is using RTX Remix to remaster Half-Life 2. So yeah, absolutely."
As Freeman previously points out, this is not entirely surprising for some, as games like Portal RTX and the in-development Half-Life 2 RTX were made using earlier versions of RTX Remix. Nevertheless, for those who were wondering about its limitations, the confirmation should put some minds at ease.
Nvidia officially announced the RTX Remix tool in September 2022. It quickly became an interesting piece of software and caught the attention of many when we saw that RTX Remix could provide a visually stunning facelift to older games, most notably its demo of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.
