Few comic book heroes know how to ring in the holiday season like Hellboy. Look no further than comics like Hellboy: Krampusnacht. 2023 will wrap up with another festive Hellboy comic, as Big Red grapples with an Icelandic monster known as the Yule Cat.
IGN can exclusively debut a new preview of Hellboy Winter Special: The Yule Cat #1. Check it out in the slideshow gallery below:
The Yule Cat is written and drawn by Matt Smith (Barbarian Lord) and colored by Chris O'Halloran. In this one-shot special, Hellboy travels to Reykjavik, Iceland after reports surface of children going missing. It soon becomes apparent that these disappearances may be the work of the fabled beast known as the Yule Cat.
"Hellboy is easily my favorite comic book character," Smith tells IGN. "A lot of reasons are behind that. At the top of that list would be finding out how old local folklore ties into the story's current events. Also, talking animals. Maybe a rat or bird is commenting on Hellboy's progress or issuing him a warning. These things go a way to create the overall atmosphere all of us Hellboy fans love it for. Then there's the personality of Hellboy himself, as unvarnished and direct as the best Icelandic saga heroes. If I managed to get any of that stuff I love right in this comic, I'll consider it one of the best things I've done."
Hellboy Winter Special: The Yule Cat #1 is priced at $3.99 and will be released on December 13.
That's not the only holiday-themed Hellboy release hitting stores soon. Chocolate FX is releasing a limited edition box of Hellboy chocolates. The set includes nine chocolates adorned with Hellboy art and comes packaged inside a keepsake tin featuring art by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola.
The Hellboy Holiday limited edition tin will be available to order on Chocolate FX's website today beginning at 12pm PT.
