Two years before Iron Man would vault ensemble superhero universes into the highest echelons of pop culture, a television show on NBC tried to assemble its own Avengers. Created by Tim Kring, Heroes was a broadcast television drama that was ahead of its time in a lot of ways. One example of how the show didn't fall into the common tropey traps of mid-oughts TV and genre stories is in general is the importance of high-school cheerleader hero, Claire Bennet. In fact, her very first "mission" to right an injustice is one that would play well with audiences even today.
