Fans of The Last of Us have been waiting with bated breath for any news regarding the upcoming second season of the hit post-apocalyptic HBO series starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. Well, the long wait is over, as Sony unveiled a new trailer for the show at its CES 2025 press conference on Monday, revealing that the highly anticipated second season is set to return this April.

The short trailer offers a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it glimpse of what audiences can expect from Joel and Ellie’s next adventure. Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart) appears as Abby, a member of the Fireflies faction whose story, as those who have played 2020’s The Last of Us Part II already know, will be pivotal in the forthcoming season. Jeffrey Wright (Westworld) makes an appearance, reprising his role as the Washington Liberation Front Leader Isaac Dixon from The Last of Us Part II, as well as Isabela Merced (Alien: Romulus), who plays Dina, Ellie’s friend and love interest. And of course, there’s Joel; shedding a tear in one shot and furiously slamming a door in another. Good to see ya, buddy!

In March 2023, showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann confirmed in an interview with GQ U.K. that the series would adapt The Last of Us Part II across multiple seasons, with the second season of The Last of Us covering the first part of the game’s story. “You have noted correctly that we will not say how many,” Mazin said when asked how many seasons the events of The Last of Us Part II would cover. “But more than one is factually accurate.”

As with the first season, the second season of The Last of Us will also feature notable changes from its source material. “Some of the stuff I’m most excited for [in Part 2] are the changes we’ve discussed and seeing the story come to life again in this other version,” Druckmann told GQ U.K. “And I think it’s exciting because it leans into those feelings you had from the game, really heavily, in a new way.”
