Farscape arrived in 1999, and gave sci-fi television a breath of fresh air. It looked very different from the Star Wars and Star Trek franchises, which dominated the genre at the time, and quickly gained a devoted cult following. It was canceled after four seasons, but a two-part miniseries – Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars – delivered proper closure to its highly complex storyline. It inspired future sci-fi projects, most notably the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, whose director, James Gunn, is a self-professed fan.
