If you're an average Joe like me with an average income, then you're probably as frustrated as I am when it comes to rising GPU prices. The cost of this year's iteration of GPUs has risen so much more steeply than in past years. It's more important than ever to try to maximize your performance for the dollar. Fortunately, Amazon Prime Day brings with it several pretty good GPU deals, both from NVIDIA and AMD.
Which camp should I side with, NVIDIA or AMD?
This has been a controversy that has spanned millenia. Not really, but it certainly feels like it. In my opinion, if you've got the cash and you prioritize visual fidelity you go with NVIDIA. NVIDIA knocked it out of the park with ray tracing performance, and their DLSS 2.0 or 3.0 tech gives it an edge over AMD's FSR tech. Now if you are on a budget, AMD usually offers a better bang for your buck, especially if you don't intend to turn on ray tracing. The truth is most of us favor performance over quality, especially when the quality is already very good and you get diminishing returns on your improvements. Taking ray tracing out of the equation, AMD cards can offer similar performance at pretty significant price savings.
