FLCL is well-known among hardcore anime fans, especially those outside of Japan who first became interested in the medium during the early 2000s. FLCL was an early staple of Adult Swim's anime programming block and one of the better examples of anime's truly outrageous and limitless nature. FLCL was a gateway series for many curious anime newcomers, which makes it particularly disappointing that the franchise is closing its doors, albeit with a whimper rather than the high esteem that accompanied the original series.
