The anime community has been an incredibly niche group for decades, with more young men than any other demographic. Despite the lead in male viewers and, by extension, shonen and seinen series, more female viewers of varying ages have become fans over time. This gave rise to shojo series, which are marketed toward young girls. As shojo anime gained popularity, another demographic has been long forgotten — the josei demographic.
