Marvel has reportedly chosen Star Trek: Picard showrunner Terry Matalas to lead a Paul Bettany-led Vision series for Disney+ that will arrive in 2026 and tell a new story set after the events of WandaVision.
As reported by Variety, this new, untitled Vision series marks the first new live-action show from Marvel in almost two years and will hopefully answer many of the hanging threads from WandaVision. Disney did not immediately respond to IGN's request for comment.
Warning: Spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War and WandaVision below:
For those unfamiliar, Vision was killed by Thanos during the events of Avengers: Infinity War, but appeared in WandaVision. We would discover that Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff had created a spectral creation of her love with magic and that he was not resurrected from the dead.
To make matters even worse, S.W.O.R.D. took Vision's actual body and reassembled him with the help of some Chaos Magic to hunt down Maximoff. This new "White Vision" had no memories of his past, but he regained them with a bit of help from the Vision created by Wanda. White Vision then flies off and we have yet to see him again.
As for Matalas, he began his career working on Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise and would work his way up to become co-showrunner for Season 2 of Star Trek: Picard and the sole showrunner for its third and final season. He was also the co-creator and showrunner for 12 Monkeys.
There have been talks of a Vision series, which reportedly had the name of Vision Quest, for some time. WandaVision creator, writer, and executive producer Jac Schaeffer was going to lead the series, but she has been all in on the other WandaVision spin-off called Agatha All Along that will arrive on Disney+ on September 18.
This new Vision series looks to be part of Marvel's new somewhat reduced schedule for Marvel Cinematic Universe projects which looks to have no more than three movies and two shows per year.
While we may have to wait some time for this Vision series, Deadpool & Wolverine is just around the corner as it will be released in theaters on July 26, 2024.
