It’s been more than four months since we entered a new era for Polygon. We hope that by now you’ve come to appreciate the speed, functionality, and look of our redesigned website. Our incredible product team has been hard at work listening to your feedback and adding features you’ve been clamoring for.

Of course, there’s also the less heralded but no less important work of fixing bugs, performing maintenance, and shoring up the website’s back end. In that spirit, we’ve overhauled the way Polygon user accounts work — but with as few material changes as possible for you. One is that you’ll now log in to Polygon with an email address instead of your username. (If you previously signed in with a Google or Facebook account, don’t worry; that functionality isn’t going away.)

The biggest benefit of this upgrade is the ability to use your existing Polygon account (via the email address that’s tied to it) across a number of Vox Media sites! For now, this functionality extends to Polygon, The Verge, Vox.com, New York magazine, and the just-launched Eater app; more is on the way. If you already log in to any of those places with the same email address you use on Polygon, you’ll find that you now have one account that covers all your bases. You’ll also see a refreshed account page on each of the aforementioned platforms, where you can customize your handle on a per-site basis. If you want to use the same account as “Batman” on Polygon and “Bruce Wayne” on The Verge, you can do that!

For existing users, your current Polygon username as well as comments that you’ve posted using our Coral platform have been preserved during this migration. If your comment history isn’t showing up for some reason, please reach out to our support team.

A bonus of this revamped account system is that it will ask new users to verify their email address during the sign-up process, which we hope will reduce the amount of spam you see in our comments sections. We look forward to wasting less time banning bots and spending more time having thoughtful discussions with you, our faithful readers.
